Benny had went back to work, trying to keep her mind off of Cedrick. He wasn’t a bad person. But he was rich and engaged and she couldn’t have agreed to the dinner! She had nothing to wear! An hour before dinner, the brunette had went to her cabin to find something to wear. She had finally found a rather appropriate dress. It was her mother’s and a dark shade of red. She put it on with a lone pair of heels she usually never wore. To finish to outfit, she put on the most expensive thing she owned. A pearl necklace that her father bought her before he died.
Walking up to the deck, she thought she looked silly. Like a girl playing dress up. She wasn’t rich or powerful. She had no right to be here. She was about to turn back before she saw Cedrick waiting for him. Deciding not to disappoint him, she walked slowly to where he stood. “Hi.”
When Cedrick heard a voice behind him, the young man turned around. Looking at Benny in that beautiful dress made him realize how easily she would fit into his world. No one would figure who she was. They would just assume she was one of them. “H-hello.” he stuttered for a moment, still being overwhelmed by her beauty. “You look very beautiful.” he complimented her. He reached out his hand for to take before he brought it up and placed a small kiss to its back. “That’s why a gentleman does.” he gave her a small grin. What was she doing to him? Why did he feel so nervous about this? He had never felt this way before around anyone. Soemthing was different about her.
“I do hope you’re hungry. I assume it’s going to be a big dinner.” he chuckled, holding his arm out for her to link it with his. But every dinner on the Titanic was big. No exceptions.
Benny gave him a soft smile, hoping that he would take it as a sign that she was hopeful. In all honesty, she knew it didn’t matter if they loved her. She really only cared about that Cedrick thought of her. After all, she was not his fiancé. They could hate her for all she cared. Giving out a sigh, she nodded at the time he gave her. “Eight. I’ll be here. Promise.” She smiled before looking at the clock behind him. “I really should be going but thank you for the walk.” She hummed. “It was possible the best time I have ever had on this ship.”
Once again, the young man needed to smile at her. Excitement was growing inside him. He was for once actually looking forward to have dinner. “Of course. It was nice talking to you.” Cedrick replied. It was more than just nice but he tried to keep it low. But her last words made him grin a bit, his dimples showing. “And we’re on this ship for only a day.” he grinned. Cedrick have her another smile before saying his goodbye and returning to his family.
Rest of the day went by quickly. He had tea time with his father before taking another walk along the ship with the great men. And then it was time to get ready for dinner. Cedrick made sure to wear his best suit, a simple one but very elegant. Instead of questioning it, his father was proud to see his son was finally trying. More than he usually did. And he assumed it was all for his fiancée. But no, for someone else. When it was time to leave, Cedrick made his way to the dining hall. He held ont the arm of his mother before he told her he would be there in a minute when he walked up the stairs to wait for Benny to arrive.
Benny blinked at his words. Dinner? She could possible do that. Though people would wonder what she was doing there. She didn’t have a dress as expensive or as pretty as all of these socialites. Maybe she could find something that she could wear. She did want to spend more time with Cedrick after all. He paid attention to her and listened to her. More then anyone had done before. But his fiancé would probably be there. As would his parents? What would they say about a small peasant girl joining them? “Alright. I will join you for dinner. At least then I will know who is leaving all the mess that I have to clean up.” She teased, tucking her hair behind her ear.
“Great.” Cedrick exhaled a small sigh in relief and being more than happy she agreed on it. “Don’t worry about the others. They will love you.” he chuckled. But to be honest, he wasn’t entirely sure if that was going to be the case. Cedrick had to comeup with something why he had invited her. But that was something he would worry later about. “I will meet you at eight at the clock, okay?” he asked.
Benny nodded at that, trying to imagine being married off for money purposes. She couldn’t imagine her father ever doing that to her. Her father loved his family above everything else. It was why they were in Italy. It wasn’t his fault he died. She sighed before shrugging her shoulders. “I suppose then, you have a choice to make. What’s more important to you.” She whispered before shaking her head with a sigh. “But then again, you don’t have to listen to me. I’m just the help. I don’t know how…it is like for someone in your position.” She said simply with a shrug. She looked down the hall before giving a small nod. “Should we continue on our walk? My break will almost be over.”
Cedrick nodded at her words. He wasn’t saying anything, he just thought about it. But he couldn’t really figure out a solution. No, it wasn’t that easy. He decided it was better to drop this topic. Why did he even start talking about it? When she mentioned her break would be over soon, the urge to make her stay came over him. He didn’t want her to leave already and so soon. But he feared he had no choice. “Alright.” He nodded. Last he wanted was to get her into trouble. But before she could leave, he had an idea. “How about you join me for dinner tonight?” He asked her. Hole was clear in his voice, and maybe a bit excitement. But truth was, he wanted to spend more time with her.
